Ponca City

A hidden gem, Ponca City offers cosmopolitan attractions among the plains of north-central Oklahoma. Start your trip with a tour of the glorious Marland Mansion, known to many as the “palace on the prairie.” This 1920s structure was built by oil tycoon E.W. Marland, and no expense was spared. Explore the four-story, 55-room mansion and marvel at gold leaf-covered ceilings and Waterford crystal chandeliers. The Marland Mansion is not the only piece of awe-inspiring architecture to be found in Ponca City and you'll want to also pay a visit to the Poncan Theatre where Vaudeville acts once performed and movies once premiered. Performances still occur at the Poncan Theatre, but it's also an attraction in its own right featuring one of the largest collections of vintage hand-painted lobby art from old Hollywood movies in the world.

Immerse yourself in the history of the area at unique museums. The Pioneer Woman Museum provides a glimpse into the lifestyles of the pioneers who settled the area in the late 1800s from the perspective of the women who ran the households and raised the families. Standing Bear Park, Museum & Education Center pays homage to Poncan Chief Standing Bear with a monumental statue surrounded by over 60 acres dotted with interpretive signage and a museum filled with art and artifacts from the six Native American tribes that inhabit the area. Or visit the Conoco Museum which contains exhibits detailing more than 125 years of history of the Conoco Oil Company which started as a kerosene distributor in Ponca City and grew into a top international energy company.

The whole family will enjoy spending a day outdoors soaking up the sun and swimming at Ponca LakeKaw Lake, the Wentz Pool or B&B Sun 'n Fun Water Park. Search for bald eagles that make their winter home around Kaw Lake or ride the equestrian trails there. Wander the Cann Memorial Botanical Gardens and gaze upon the beautifully landscaped grounds. Cap off your day with a visit to the Vortex Alley Brewery to enjoy a few cold craft beers. There's plenty to see and do in Ponca City!
