Things To Do in Okmulgee

Here in Okmulgee one can walk the historic downtown which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  While on the walking tour don’t miss the Creek Council House that displays historic artifacts of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.  Okmulgee became home to the Creek Nation following the Trail of Tears and today, Okmulgee is proud to be the capitol of this Native tribe.  The name “Okmulgee” comes from a Muscogee word that means “bubbling water”.

Okmulgee and Dripping Springs Lakes are in a lush countryside of beauty where one can boat, fish, camp and hike.  Nearby is the 10,000-acre Deep Fork Wildlife Refuge and hunting and fishing are allowed here.  There is a wonderful variety of wildlife including the American bald Eagle.
