Dewey

The small town of Dewey has a big reputation among silent film aficionados as the home of world-famous silent film adventure actor Tom Mix. Today, the Tom Mix Museum welcomes visitors from near and far to explore a large collection of personal items, movie memorabilia and exhibits relating to Mix’s time spent as a trick roper, deputy sheriff and athletic coach. The Western Theater located within the museum shows movies each day, and the museum also serves as the town’s Visitor Center.

Another must-see attraction is the Dewey Hotel Museum. Built in the late 1800s by founding father Jacob Bartles, this historic structure displays furnishings, photos and clothing from early settlers. Antique lovers will enjoy browsing antique shops and malls in downtown Dewey to find treasures. While you are antiquing, stop by the Linger Longer Antique Shop to savor a tasty treat from their old-fashioned soda fountain.

Time your Dewey visit to coincide with the annual Stray Kat 500 Car Show to surround yourself with beautifully-restored classic and antique cars. Or join in on quilt shows, holiday events and other fun festivals throughout the year.
